The issue I am exploring is the how the themes of modernist design theory have been interpreted throughout design and contemporary design in terms of new media. As well as looking at the ideas put forward by the Bauhaus and the De Stijl movement about identifying a universal language and creating a general design structure that can be applied to any of the arts- architecture, graphics, type, and sculpture. This derives through the research of my essay and will inform the practical work.
This can be resolved using visual communication by analysing the modernist design theory and seeing how this can be translated from modernist architecture into typography for example.
The modernist design theory must evident in the practical work, the target audience could be seen as designers or architects. Hopefully the practical work will allow a better understanding of the unity of the arts.
