OUGD501 - Poster developments.

The process of  creating the posters began with the selection of some interesting products, chairs, buildings and other elements that also illustrate modernist geometry.

Selecting a wide range allows for a better overview of geometry's influence in modernism.

The use of white and blue displays the imagery as more of a cohesive set and highlights the similarities in the pieces of design. The space, shape and geometric style is intended to be highlighted.

The selection of the photos to work from was key in the designs being clear and giving off the correct message. Though these designs did work the detail was lost shown in a simple form.

The posters mark some initial mock ups, the imagery felt too basic and didn't best reflect how interesting each item was in its own right. There fore this informed the use of half toned imagery shown in the posters bellow. This in part was informed by the work of Sacha Lobe and the Bauhaus archive.

With this new imagery style the the images could be more effectively communicated and the geometry in turn highlighted. Creating the compositions from this was a tricky task but as they all share the dynamic qualities it was more of a process of experimentation to get the best results. The inclusion of the Gerrit Rietveld chair, Dieter Rams's TPL radio, Herbert Bayers universal alphabet, and the Villa Savoye by Le corbusier. This gave a large range of different things, as well as many varying dates that all have common themes of geometric values and strong use of shape. The posters needed to be eye catching to appeal to the target audience of designers and creatives. The use of yellow and black archives this.

This image above shows the finalised designs, including a quote taken from the essay informed by my peer feedback as a way of linking essay to practical.
